THE TOP 9 CURRENT PROBLEMS [with SOLUTIONS] BEING EXPERIENCED
. 2: To use your CAC on your Mac, visit the MAC Notes page, decide which program you want to use based on your version of OS X and your specific CAC type.
3: Army users, when installing ApproveIt 6.5, you may receive "No host application was found on this computer. Please install the host application before installing ApproveIt Desktop" follow solution here
4: If you have the "Gemalto TOP DL GX4 144" CAC, and sometimes the "Oberthur ID One 128 v5.5 Dual" CAC, are using Windows 7 or 8, you "may" be able to use your CAC without installing ActivClient.
5: If you have the "Oberthur ID One 128 v5.5 Dual" CAC and it does not appear to be working with your Windows computer you need to install ActivClient 6.2.0.50, AND then update it.
6. Mac users who have purchased the IO Gear GSR-202, GSR-202V, or GSR-203 CAC readers may have problems. We've worked with Thursby Software and IOGear to find an update [which is actually a downgrade] for the firmware on the reader. Please follow guidance here to update / downgrade your CAC reader.
7. Windows 7 (64 bit) users who have the IO Gear GSR-202 CAC reader [and are having problems with the reader not staying in device manager after the computer is restarted] should Install the driver from IOGear then restart the computer to fix the problem. This has worked for some people, others are still having the problem. To update the driver manually, follow this guidance. The only other solution for it not working is to return it and purchase a different reader.
8. Windows 8 is here. Installing ActivClient may make your CAC NOT work. You "may" be able to use the Windows 8 built in Smart Card utility if you have Windows 8 Professional. NOTE: Most people who have the Windows 8 BASIC edition [shows only as Windows 8] are unable to get it to work (except for Navy personnel). If it doesn't work for you, I know of four solutions: 1. Upgrade to Windows 8 Professional; 2. Install ActivClient 7.0.1 ARMY users can download 7.0.1 (32bit)(64bit) from AKO. All other branches [and anyone wanting 7.0.2] can purchase it from: SCB Solutions. 3. Purchase and install CSSi for Windows (currently only available from SCB Solutions), OR 4. Download Smart Card Manager 1.0.1-6-1 Installer for Windows. [Alternate download link].
9. All Army Knowledge Online (AKO) users who have a CAC will be / have been migrated to DISA's Enterprise Email and will no longer be able to access their AKO email with their username and password. This new email system requires 100% CAC use at: https://web.mail.mil. Please look at this page for information you will need prior, during, and after this transition.
The Army, Air Force, and DISA have joined forces to allow its personnel the opportunity to purchase Office 2013 for $9.95 through the Microsoft Home Use Program. This is Office 2013 Professional and includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Publisher, InfoPath, and Lync.
iPhone and iPad users can use their CAC and access CAC enabled websites using Thursby's PKard for iOS and one of several CAC readers.

If you would like to utilize your CAC to only logon to AKO or other CAC enabled sites (and not sign forms), consider using LPS (Lightweight Portable Security) and not install any CAC software on your computer.
